Akin is dedicated to improving the health and well-being of children and families. Their Lake City facility, with an imposing brick building and a fast-moving car-focused neighborhood, struggled to maintain safety and human scale in offering its services. A new entry path and front plaza help bring human scale and safety through a busy parking lot. A new fenced-in play area with playful synthetic turf sets up the client for future play equipment. Wire mesh and vines help to define a covered patio. New plantings, fencing, and bollards around the building create a softer, safer, and more human-scale site for kids and their families.
